In short
This guide from Best Of Motivation is for anyone with a business or side-project idea who wants to test it before spending months on it. It gives you four AI business idea prompts: one for clarity, one for positioning, one for a 30-day plan and one for a small testable offer. They work in ChatGPT or any AI assistant. The prompts are free to copy: add your own details and you can have a first test planned in about an hour. At the end there’s a free quiz on where AI helps you most and a free runway calculator if you’re thinking of going solo.
Plenty of business ideas stay in a notes app. They never meet a real customer, so nobody finds out whether they’d work.
You don’t need a full business plan to change that. You need a clear problem, a clear message and one small test. These four prompts get you there.
Why should you test an idea before building it?
Because the cheapest time to find out an idea won’t sell is before you’ve built it. Steve Blank’s 2013 Harvard Business Review article on the lean start-up made the case: talk to customers, test a small version and change course early, instead of writing a long plan first.
AI makes the thinking part faster. It can’t do the testing for you, but it can help you decide what to test.

What are the four AI business idea prompts?
Run them in order, in the same chat, so each answer builds on the last. Swap the brackets for your own details.
1. Get clear on the problem. You get the exact problem, who feels it most, and quick ways to check demand.
Here is my business idea: [describe it in two or three sentences]. Tell me the exact problem it solves, who feels that problem most, and three ways I could check this week whether people would pay to have it solved.
2. Say what makes it different. You get one plain sentence you can use on a page, a post or in conversation.
Turn my idea into one plain sentence: who it’s for, the problem it solves, and what makes my approach different. Give me three versions, then tell me which is clearest and why.
3. Plan 30 days of testing. You get one main task per week and a clear signal for whether to carry on.
Create a simple 30-day plan to test this idea, with one main task per week and a clear sign at the end of each week that tells me whether to continue, change or stop.
4. Shape a small testable offer. You get the smallest version someone can say yes or no to.
Turn my idea into the smallest offer I could sell or give away in the next two weeks. Include what it is, who it helps, how they get it, the price or the ask, and the one thing I should measure.
What does this look like in practice?
Three examples of how the prompts narrow an idea down:
A study planner app
Prompt 1 narrows it to first-year students juggling part-time work. Prompt 4 turns it into a one-page weekly planner to test with ten students before any app gets built.
Beginner strength coaching
Prompt 2 lands on “beginner-friendly strength sessions for busy parents”. Prompt 4 shapes a two-week starter programme to offer a handful of people.
A CV review service
Prompt 1 finds the niche: new graduates. Prompt 4 makes the offer a 24-hour CV check with three clear fixes.
What mistakes should you avoid?
- Giving the AI too little context about your idea, your customer and your time.
- Skipping the test and going straight to building.
- Polishing a perfect offer when a rough test offer would teach you more.
- Making the first 30-day plan too complicated to follow.
- Ignoring what people tell you when it isn’t what you hoped.
Clarity builds momentum. One small test this month can teach you things another month of planning won’t.
What do people ask about AI business idea prompts?
Do these prompts work in any AI tool?
Yes. They work in ChatGPT, Gemini or any AI assistant. The more detail you give about your idea, your customer and your time, the more useful the answers.
Can AI tell me if my business idea will work?
No. It can help you think, spot gaps and plan a test. Only real people paying, signing up or saying no will tell you whether it works.
How long does it take to run the four prompts?
About an hour to run all four and choose your first test. The 30-day plan in prompt 3 spreads the test over four weeks.
What should my first test be?
The smallest thing someone can say yes or no to: a one-page offer, a short pre-sale or a free trial for a handful of people.
