Skip the 47-step guides. Here’s what’s actually holding you back—and how to fix it today.
Most personal branding advice overcomplicates everything. You don’t need 15 content pillars, a ring light, and a posting schedule colour-coded by moon phase. You’re probably making one of these five mistakes that keep you invisible.
Your bio reads like a personality test result. “Marketing enthusiast | Coffee lover | Dreamer” tells people nothing about why they should follow you.
Flip the script. State the benefit you deliver, who you help, and how.
Your bio isn’t about you. It’s about what you do for them.
You’re reposting quotes and sharing generic tips. So is everyone else. There’s no reason to follow you specifically.
Decide what you believe that others don’t. That’s your point of view. Lead with it.
A brand is a consistent opinion on your topic. No opinion, no brand. If you think most productivity advice is overcomplicated nonsense—say that.
Monday you’re using blue and minimalist fonts. Wednesday it’s orange with script text. Your feed looks like five different people run it.
Pick 2–3 colours and one font style. Stick with them for 90 days minimum.
Consistency beats creativity. When someone sees your post, they should know it’s you before reading your name.
You keep your content broad because you don’t want to “limit yourself.” But broad means bland. If you’re for everyone, you’re memorable to no one.
Speak to one person. Name them in your head. Write every post for that specific person.
That specific person will follow you. Everyone else? They weren’t going to buy anyway.
People see your post, maybe like it, then scroll away forever. You’re creating content but not building anything.
Every post needs a micro-CTA. Not a sales pitch—just a next step:
- “Save this for later”
- “Comment with your biggest challenge”
- “Link in bio for the free template”
You’re not being pushy. You’re being useful. If your content helps people, telling them what to do next is a service.
The Bottom Line
Fix one of these this week. Not all five. Just one. Pick the mistake you’re most guilty of, and sort it out before you post again.
