How to talk to a Green personality at work

Greens don’t argue. They go quiet, say it’s fine, and carry it. The skill is slowing down enough to hear what they’re not saying.

Practise it before you say it

Greens are the steady ones. They cover the shift, keep the peace and rarely push back, so it’s easy to miss what they’re carrying. Rush them and you get "it’s fine" or a nod that doesn’t mean yes. These three let you practise slowing down and making it safe to disagree, with someone who reacts like a Green, before you try it at work.

Two-thirds of managers say they’re uncomfortable communicating with the people they manage.

How it works

  1. Pick the conversation. Each one is an everyday situation from shops, warehouses and shift work, with one person on the other side who has their own reasons.
  2. Talk it through. Type what you’d say. They answer the way people do: they deflect, go quiet, or open up when you get it right. Up to eight turns.
  3. Hear how it went. Our AI coach reads the whole conversation and tells you what worked, where it slipped, what to say instead and the one thing to practise. Then try it again.

What we keep: nothing you typed. Your conversation stays in your browser and goes to our AI coach only to write the next reply and your feedback. Use a made-up name for the person you’re thinking of.

Questions people ask

What’s a Green personality?

In the four colours, Green is the calm, supportive style: patient, loyal and keen to keep things steady. The watch-out is saying no. The colours are a quick way to describe habits under pressure, not boxes, and most people lead with one or two.

Why practise talking to a Green?

Because a Green rarely tells you it’s going wrong. They agree, go quiet or say it’s fine. If you’re quicker-paced, it’s easy to take that at face value and move on. The character here does the same, so you can practise noticing it.

Which one should I start with?

The one that sounds like someone you know. If none does yet, start with Priya: the person who covers every shift is the easiest one to miss until they’ve had enough.

Can I do the same one twice?

Yes, and that’s where most of the learning is. Your first go at each conversation is free. Each go after that, including a second go at the same one, uses one Ask BOM credit.

Credits are the same as Ask BOM credits: packs from 10 for £3 to 100 for £20, and one code works across every coach tool on the site. How credits work
